North Light Newborns was created to help families navigate the fourth trimester.

Our goal is to help you feel well rested and confident when caring for your newborn.

We have combined our talents and experience to help you from the moment you realize you will be bringing a new baby home.

Our services include around-the-clock care and can be customized to fit your needs. We can help families all over the world in a virtual capacity in addition to in-person support for local families in the Portland, Maine area.

Our team is composed of educated, certified caregivers who are mothers themselves and together have over 25 years of experience helping new parents navigate this new chapter.

Mollie Barnathan

Certified Postpartum Doula, Co-founder

I am a certified postpartum doula with seven years of experience helping families in the Greater Portland area. I have a Masters in Public Health with a background in global health and community development.

I am also a mom of three young girls. I thrive on efficiency, organization, and early bedtimes. My husband and I get through the day with lots of humor, compassion, and a freezer full of ice cream.

My journey to motherhood included deciding to end two very wanted pregnancies and surviving postpartum depression. You can read more about my experience in my op-ed for the Bangor Daily News. My experiences gave me deep empathy for the emotional and practical complexities of motherhood and have inspired me to help new parents navigate early parenting’s joys and challenges.

I hold certificates from The Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath And Death for “Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss” and “Holding Space for Abortion,” and I am a founding board member of the Maine chapter of Postpartum Support International. I am also infant First Aid and CPR certified.

Katie Ketner, MBA

Newborn Sleep Consultant and Overnight Newborn Specialist, Co-founder

I have been helping families locally in Maine and across the country tackle their newborns’ sleep challenges for over 20 years. From overnight support to sleep consultations, I provide guidance and aid for families to develop healthy sleep foundations so everyone can get a good nights’ rest.

My professional perspective is informed by being a mother, giving me a broad spectrum of knowledge that has enabled me to help numerous families. As a single mom of two, I understand the value of a strong support network and I am honored to help families navigate the earliest days.

In addition to my years of experience, I am a certified Newborn Care Specialist and I hold specialized certifications in support for sleep, breastfeeding, and multiples/preemie care. I am also infant First Aid and CPR certified.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
